November - E. coli O157 in Sweden
E. coli O157 sickened 20 people in Sweden with a link to minced meat.
Four people, including three children, were affected by hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a condition affecting the kidney.
Livsmedelsverket with Jordbruksverket (Agriculture Department) traced the issue through the chain back to farm level.
Analyses from Folkhälsomyndigheten (Public Health Agency) and Statens veterinärmedicinska anstalt found it was the same variant of O157 in sick people as at the farm during sampling.
