September - Hepatitis A from Egyptian strawberries
Frozen strawberries imported from Egypt were suspected to be behind an outbreak of hepatitis A virus (HAV) which sickened 143 people.
Ill people reported drinking smoothies containing strawberries at Tropical Smoothie Café but 14 cases had no direct exposure to the café.
Strawberries were from the International Company for Agricultural Production & Processing (ICAPP). HAV contamination was found in multiple samples of the strawberries.
Tropical Smoothie Café also switched to another supplier.
