United Food Technology was promoting a brand new concept ‘Factory in a box’. Managing director Gerhard Vogt, said poor contractors and time delays were just some of the problems facing SMEs who are looking to expand. As a modular factory design concept, ‘Factory in a box’ was designed to solve the issue these companies have. It takes about a week to set up and then production is ready to go, he said. Units can be added at a later stage if the company decides it needs more space. The model on display at Gulfood was the first of its kind, with the first installation of the concept to take place in Dubai at a fast food factory, which is taking 33 units. The factory shell is made from a steel frame, which Vogt said was as rigid as a shipping container. It has 120mm-thick walls, and also contains hygiene controls on entry, with drainage, flooring, equipment and water connections already installed. Vogt also explained that, as well as the unit, the company can also supply all the equipment and machinery to go in it through its partnership with other manufacturers.
