Snack bars have emerged as a popular method of incorporating cricket flour. According to Brockman, an important part of the branding is to emphasise both the ethical and taste benefits of insects.
“Insects are emerging as a viable food ingredient, and should be in the minds of forward-thinking brands looking to establish a strong environmental image,” says Brockman.
British brand Gathr Crobar’s Cricket Flour Bar describes its protein bars as "the tasty, nutritious and sustainable protein source of the future" while fellow UK brand Eat Grub says its energy bars are “the original superfood” – good for health and the planet.
