Although flavour is an obvious focal point for food and beverage companies to zoom in on, we live in societies that are increasingly visual and share-focused, says Mintel. This calls for innovative packaging, delivery formats, colours or shapes.

One food manufacturer who is making a direct connection with social media is Germany's Hans Freitag with Anita’s Own Likies cookies. The cookies are in the shape of a ‘thumbs up’ and can be given to anyone who deserves a like, a compliment or a thank you, says the manufacturer.
