Tropane alkaloids levels exceeded
March - Switzerland: High levels of tropane alkaloids were again detected in the wild brown ground millet, according to the Federal Office of Food Safety and Veterinary (OSAv).
Austrian manufacturer, Urkornhof Kammerleithner, has already ordered its customers to withdraw product from the shelves.
The following lots are concerned: Millet wild brown ground, 500g, Lot 60783 (minimum shelf life date: 30.11.2015), Lot 60105 (minimum shelf life date: 31/8/2015) and Millet wild brown ground, 1,000g Lot 60600 (minimum shelf life date: 30.11.2015).
Tropane alkaloids are toxic substances that are naturally produced by the seeds of other plants and can be present in cereal crops and contaminate the crop.
