Food Safety recall round-up 9-15 January
Plastic worries for ready meals
14 January - England: Cook Trading has recalled some of its own-brand frozen ready meals because an ingredient used may contain fragments of coloured plastic.
A full product list with best before dates can be found here - but includes Chicken Chow Mein, Chicken Noodle Laska, Chicken Panang, Green Thai Chicken Curry, Pad Thai and Thai Butternut Squash Soup and the earliest best before date is 1/6/15.
The Palm Sugar cubes were spotted by one of the firm's chefs as part of a Thai recipe.
Cook Trading said it has identified a possible issue with an ingredient supplied from the Far East which could potentially contain small fragments of coloured plastic.
"We are recalling all of the products listed in this table as a precautionary measure. We are working closely with our supplier to fully investigate this issue and prevent this from reoccurring in the future."
The plastic fragments are very small and should cause no physical harm if eaten but they definitely shouldn’t be in the food, said the company.
