European Commission (EC) steps up fight against food crime
Food safety authorities, police forces and regulatory bodies from across Europe have continued to step-up their efforts to combat food crime in 2012.
Authorities from across the continent met at a European Commission-organised conference in February with the sole aim of met of identifying and developing a strategy for fighting food-related crime.
The European police authority, Europol, reiterated the need for more cooperation between European Union (EU) member states and announced that it would continue its work in the field through a repeat of 2011's Europe-wide crackdown on food crime - Operation Opson.
