Food safety recall round-up 16-22 June 2017
E. coli O121 in flour
Canada: Robin Hood brand Super Keynote Strong Bakers Flour and Italian Style Flour has been recalled due to possible E. coli O121 contamination.
Products have been sold from various retailers in Ontario and possibly nationally and were intended for sale to hotels, restaurants, and institutions.
The recall was triggered by the CFIA during its investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. There have been infections associated with flour but no confirmed illnesses associated with the above products.
Despite recalls continuing, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) said the outbreak appears to be over and the investigation has been closed as no new cases have been reported since April.
E. coli O121 was linked to various flour produced by Ardent Mills.
There were 30 cases with a matching genetic fingerprint in British Columbia (13), Saskatchewan (4), Alberta (5), Ontario (1), Quebec (1) and Newfoundland and Labrador (5). One of the cases was a visitor to Canada.
