Essentia launches antibiotic-free poultry proteins
The company has expanded its ingredients line to include ProBase and ScanPro No Antibiotics Ever (NAE) chicken and turkey products. The innovations will be added to its portfolio of ingredients for delivering processing and clean-label benefits for foods and supplements.
The move taps into growing demand for high protein products and meat industry initiatives to shift away from antibiotics. Essentia Protein Solutions, based in Iowa in the US, claimed consumer demand for NAE poultry was also increasing rapidly. Its new products will be produced from US Department of Agriculture (USDA) inspected birds that have not been treated with antibiotics.
Antibiotic-free meat
“More and more shoppers are requesting the meat and poultry products they purchase be free from antibiotics and ingredients not typically found in their kitchen,” said Corey Jansen, president and CEO of Essentia Protein Solutions North America. “We’re excited to offer our customers new, clean-label protein solutions for products they wish to market as NAE.”
Cargill is expected to roll out its antibiotics-free Honest Turkey line to retail shelves this month, building on the agri-food giant’s commitment to reduce antibiotics use in turkey.
