Nordson, the US-based producer of coating measurement machinery for
packaging manufacturers, has teamed up with compatriot Sensory
Analytics to offer a wider range of facilities to its clients.

Nordson will use Sensory's SpecMetrix coating measurement technologies within its new coating measurement offerings for container manufacturers - the first of which, the Nordson cScan+, was introduced at the MetPack 2008 Show in Essen, Germany this week. "We are confident that our new cScan+ coating measurement offerings, powered by SpecMetrix technology, will help improve the coating quality and reduce the coating costs of container manufacturers worldwide," said Doug Bloomfield, vice president of the industrial coating and automotive systems division at Nordson. "Nordson appreciates the unique challenges being faced by global manufacturers of coated products, and we remain committed to working closely with them to ensure their continued success." Greg Frisby, CEO of Sensory Analytics, added that the new, non-contact coating measurement systems from Nordson "will help beverage and food container manufacturers optimise their coating quality while reducing product costs". Sensory provides a range of products to packaging companies operating in the food industry, most of which focus on measurement and colour control, allowing packaging companies to keep tight control over the levels of printing materials used in their products - and thus over the cost. The company has launched a range of measurement products in recent months. The Las Vegas Pack Expo show last October saw the launch of the SpecMetrix RA coating quality assurance system, which Sensory claims can help packaging firms measure barrier and protective coatings, over-varnish, inside spray, primer and performance coatings in real-time with nanometric accuracy. It also allows users to precisely measure the thickness of either wet or dry coatings on their products, Frisby claimed. Nordson, meanwhile, specialises in powder coating and liquid spray equipment and technology, and recently launched the OptiMix metering system, which allows packaging producers to more effectively mix multi-component coatings for their products. The system works with a wide range of coatings, viscosities and flow rates, provides real-time data download capability, and is available in two- and three-component configurations. Each system can control up to 32 materials and can manage up to 50 different mixing recipes, and is compatible with a wide range of existing paint supply types such as dual-diaphragm pumps, pressure tanks and piston pumps. It also works with a variety of automatic and manual application equipment including airless, air-assisted airless, HVLP, air spray and rotary atomizers, electrostatic and non-electrostatic spray guns.
