Food safety recall round-up 7-13 October 2016
Processing problem for sweetcorn
UK: Biona is recalling its canned Organic Sweetcorn as some cans may have received insufficient sterilisation.
Cans were overfilled so the microbiological safety may have been compromised and there is the possibility of foodborne illness.
When opened they have an 'unpleasant' smell and the taste of sweetcorn is affected.
The 340g product has best before 31 August 2019 and batch codes 9261 LS2D hh:mm 327 and 9261 LS2D hh:mm 328. Other batches with the same best before date have been analysed and are not affected.
Suma is also recalling its canned Organic Sweetcorn because of the same problem.
"Due to a production problem, a small number of cans were overfilled causing them to develop a strong unpleasant smell. This can be immediately identified upon opening the can. The sweetcorn itself also tastes unpleasant."
