The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health
Organisation (WHO) are to convene a Global Forum of Food Safety
Regulators in Marrakech, Morocco on 28-30 January 2002, the two
agencies announced on Thursday.
The United Nations food body has accepted an Italian proposal to
move a planned world food summit from Rome to Rimini, but officials
are still haggling over costs, sources familiar with the event said
on Wednesday.
A new report by the United Nations affirms that genetically
modified organisms could be vital to developing countries as a
newly developed high-yield variety of rice does not require
fertiliser or pesticide.
