Fasen, who runs Cyprus-based firm Draap Trading, is believed to have been placed in custody on 8 April this year, and charged with fraud, following a period of investigation.
Last year it was widely reported that Fasen could be a central figure in the horse meat scandal after he admitted buying a consignment of horse meat from two Romanian abattoirs and selling it to French companies. However he argued it had been correctly labelled as horse meat.
According to AFP, Fasen’s lawyer said he had voluntarily turned up for questioning, however he denied the charges.
Last month the UK saw the first prosecutions related to the horse meat scandal get underway at Westminster Magistrates court. Four men appeared in court accused of breaching food regulations surrounding the traceability of horse meat, the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed.
