Kellogg cereal linked to US Salmonella outbreak
US: Kellogg Company has recalled cereal because the products were linked to an outbreak of Salmonella that has sickened 73 people in 31 states.
S. Mbandaka has hospitalised 24 people but no deaths have been reported.
15.3 oz. and 23 oz. packages of Kellogg’s Honey Smacks were sold across the US and limited distribution in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, the Caribbean, Guam, Tahiti and Saipan.
The firm is investigating with the third-party manufacturer who produces Honey Smacks.
Honey Smacks 15.3 oz best before JUN 14, 2018 through JUN 14, 2019 (limited distribution outside US) has UPC code 38000 39103 and the 23 oz version with date JUN 14, 2018 through JUN 14, 2019 and UPC code of 38000 14810 are affected.
Thirty of 39 people interviewed reported eating cold cereal and 14 reported eating Kellogg’s Honey Smacks cereal.
