Food safety recall round-up 11-17 August 2017
Clostridium botulinum control concerns
England: Cornish Charcuterie is recalling pates and rillettes because of concerns over procedures to control Clostridium botulinum.
The Foods Standards Agency (FSA) said manufacturing controls necessary to ensure product safety could not be demonstrated satisfactorily by the company.
"The issue relates to controlling factors to prevent the growth and toxin production of Clostridium botulinum. Botulinum toxin may cause a serious form of food poisoning called botulism and can be fatal," it added.
All batch codes and pack sizes of Cornish Charcuterie Mushroom Pate, Spicy Bean Crush, Salmon Pate with Lemon, Salmon Pate with Horseradish and Dill, Duck Rillette with Cranberries, Chicken Rillette with Lemon, Mushroom Pork Rillette and Pork Rillette with Sloes are affected.
Cornish Charcuterie said it does not apply to chilled products or hard charcuterie.
"Due to an equipment malfunction, some...products may not have been cooked to a safe temperature. If you have purchased any of our ambient products please do not consume and return for a full refund.
"We have a rigorous food safely management system in place which has alerted us to a problem with a piece of our equipment, meaning we are recalling our ambient soft charcuterie products. We immediately notified the relevant authorities and have instigated the product recall purely as a precautionary measure."
Paxton & Whitfield is also recalling its Pots of Pork because of they are manufactured by Cornish Charcuterie.
