Would apple juice by any other name taste as sweet?
Friesland Campina’s Appelsientje semi-sweet apple juice also features among the seven nominees.
True to its name, it contains 34% less sugar – but this has been achieved by simply diluting normal apple juice, says FoodWatch.
"But how have they done it? A new process with a technical feat? A revolutionary new apple variety packed with vitamins, but with less fructose? None of that. Appelsientje has simply diluted apple juice with water and a drop of flavour..."
A spokesperson for Friesland Campina told us the company was surprised at the nomination.
"On our packaging we give consumers clear and honest information about the composition of our products," he said.
"Before this product was brought into the market, we have done extensive consumer research into the value of the product, including the name of the product. It shows that "Halfzoet" [semi-sweet] fits the taste of the consumer."
