A comment article from FoodNavigator's science expert, Nathan Gray resulted in the second most read piece of 2015, narrowly missing out on the top spot. Here Nathan was arguing against the sensationalist headlines and huge industry backlash that resulted from the WHO classifying processed meat as carcinogenic.
"Put simply," wrote Gray, "there is an established and scientifically valid link between regular consumption of processed meat and certain cancers. That does not mean eating a slice of cured ham will kill you – in fact, there are health benefits to moderate meat consumption. And it certainly does not mean that burgers should carry tobacco style cancer warnings."
He goes on to comment on the overly simplistic and sensationalised column inches, and huge backlash from an industry that had felt under attack.
