Dutch supermarket Laurus has reported a 3.6 per cent drop in
like-for-like sales for the first quarter, but insists the company
is set for recovery this year.

attracting interest from acquisitive domestic and foreign rivals.

Troubled Dutch retailer Laurus is to restructure its business in a
bid to make its three formats - Edah, Konmar and Super De Boer -
more competitive, the company announced this week.

Colruyt is to buy part of the loss-making Belgian operations of
Dutch retailer Laurus for an undisclosed sum, including the Spar
franchise business. Laurus is still negotiating the sale of its
other Belgian units.
A failed revamp of Dutch stores and poor results from Belgium and
Spain kept Dutch retailer Laurus firmly in the red in the first
half. But the recent acquisition of a stake by Casino, and cash
promised for restructuring, should aid...
