Firm analysis for fat content

Labelling issues for meat have just got easier, hails a Danish
analysis equipment company that has come up with a new technology
to measure fat content.

A criticism that is gaining in impetus as the heart healthy consumer turns increasingly away from high fat products towards lower fat alternatives.

Danish company Foss spent USD 4 million on developing a new technology for the measurement of fat content in meat. According to Foss, the aptly-named equipment MeatMaster is able to analyse the exact fat content in entire batches of meat products.

"MeatMaster features dual X-ray technology, which uses electromagnetic radiation of a high frequency. This makes it possible to accurately determine the fat content in meat owing to a small difference in the X-ray absorption of lean and fat tissue," said the company in a recent statement.

The appeal of the new product, declares the Danish company, is that up to now meat manufacturing companies have been unable to measure the exact fat percentage when tons of meat were to be processed.

"With our new technology, we can now satisfy the costumers' wish of knowing exactly what the fat content is in the meat they purchase," said Peter Foss, CEO of Foss.
