Hershey’s latest Reese’s innovation strategy: Overview
- Hershey launches two new Reese’s products to strengthen flagship brand
- Reese’s Caramel Block targets growing demand for sweet-salty indulgence
- White chocolate Trio extends variety through familiar format for consumers
- Launches reflect industry preference for low-risk brand extensions and innovation
- Reese’s remains central to Hershey’s long-term confectionery growth strategy plans
The Hershey Company is proving just how important the Reese’s brand is to its future with further portfolio innovations.
The confectionery giant has launched two new products, Reese’s Caramel Block and Reese’s White Peanut Butter Cup Trio. A move that comes off the back of the first new Reese’s Pieces launch in a decade.
The new additions build on Hershey’s strategy of using flavour innovation to keep the Reese’s portfolio fresh and relevant.
Sweet-and-salty flavour trend
The Caramel Block, says Hershey, taps into the growing consumer appetite for sweet-and-salty flavour combinations. Often referred to as ‘swalty’ or ‘swavory’, it’s a trend that continues to gain traction as shoppers seek more indulgent and layered taste experiences.
Meanwhile, the White Peanut Butter Cup Trio is a white-chocolate take on Reese’s most recognisable format. This reflects a broader industry trend towards flavour extensions and variations on established products, allowing brands to inject excitement into their portfolios while leveraging existing consumer loyalty.
Hershey invests in Reese’s
The launches come at a time when confectionery manufacturers are increasingly leaning on trusted brands to drive growth in an uncertain consumer environment. With shoppers becoming more selective about discretionary spending, established brands with strong consumer recognition are proving a safer route to innovation than completely new products.
“We’re always looking for new ways to bring excitement to the confectionery category while staying true to the unmistakable flavour combination that consumers know and love from Reese’s,” says Jackson Hitchon, general manager of Asia, EMEA and World Travel Retail at The Hershey Company. “The launch of Reese’s Caramel Block and Reese’s White Peanut Butter Cup Trio does exactly that, offering a new way to enjoy the iconic Peanut butter cups in a new format and extending our offering in the blocks category with a caramel twist.”

Brand innovation drives growth
Hershey isn’t alone in this approach. Across the confectionery industry, manufacturers are extending established brands with new formats, flavours and textures to keep portfolios fresh, attract new consumers and unlock additional growth opportunities.
In fact, as competition across the sector intensifies, innovation is increasingly becoming less about creating entirely new brands and more about finding fresh ways to evolve established favourites.
Brand extensions, flavour twists and format innovations are allowing manufacturers to meet changing consumer preferences while capitalising on the trust and recognition that existing brands have already built.
For companies such as Hershey, that approach offers a relatively low-risk route to growth at a time when consumers remain value-conscious but are still seeking indulgent treats.
By combining familiarity with novelty, brands can drive excitement without drifting too far from the core attributes that made them successful in the first place.
