At a time when many beverage brands are trying to attract consumers with functional positioning, 7UP is betting on flavor.
Rather than pursuing the latest functional beverage trend, 7UP is attempting to win consumers through a relatively simple proposition: a more distinctive taste. The reformulation suggests that even as wellness remains a major force in beverage innovation, flavor is still powerful enough to anchor a brand refresh.
The Keurig Dr Pepper-owned brand unveiled 7UP Lime Lemon, marking its first evolution in more than 15 years. The reformulation puts lime at the forefront of the brand’s signature citrus profile across its regular and zero-sugar varieties, as well as Cherry 7UP and Cherry 7UP Zero Sugar with high fructose corn syrup as the sweetener.
Rather than focusing on functionality or wellness increasingly prevalent in the soda category, the relaunch centers on taste differentiation. Keurig Dr Pepper said the goal is to strengthen 7UP’s flavor in the lemon-lime category while appealing to a new generation of consumers through a more pronounced lime flavor.
“This is a bold reinvention of one of America’s most iconic soda brands for a new generation of consumers, starting with the flavor itself,” Drew Panayiotou, chief marketing and innovation officer at Keurig Dr Pepper, said.
The company said the reformulation was informed by consumer preferences for citrus-forward and more intense flavor experiences. According to KDP’s State of Beverages 2026 Trend Report, 72% of Gen Alpha and Gen Z consumers lean toward citrus-forward flavors, while 64% prefer bold, intense taste experiences.
The flavor overhaul is part of a broader brand refresh that also includes new packaging, an updated visual identity and a marketing campaign called “Flip the Sip.” But the centerpiece of the relaunch is the beverage itself, with 7UP highlighting a brighter, lime-first taste as its key point of differentiation in the $5 billion lemon-lime category, according to the company.
