Swiss food and beverage giant unveils $1bn investment aimed at boosting manufacturing, supporting agriculture and accelerating growth across North America

Nestlé North America growth strategy: Overview

  • Nestlé invests $1bn to expand North America production capabilities
  • Total committed investment reaches $2bn following previous pledge
  • Mexico supports growth through manufacturing expansion and export capacity
  • Nestlé strengthens supply chains through increased domestic agricultural sourcing
  • Coffee remains central to Nestlé’s long-term regional growth strategy

Nestlé is continuing its expansion into North America with a $1bn (€890m) investment in Mexico.

The funding announcement, made during a meeting involving Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Nestlé CEO Philipp Navratil, is said to reaffirm the food and beverage giant’s confidence in the country as a strategic market.

Strategic expansion

The move, aimed at modernising and expanding production across Nestlé’s Mexico facilities, builds on the $1bn financing commitment announced in January 2025 and underscores Mexico’s importance as part of Nestlé’s wider growth strategy.

When unveiling its initial investment last year, the Swiss multinational described the country as its fourth-largest market worldwide and second-largest investment destination.

The Mexico expansion plans include a greater focus on agriculture and the strengthening of local value chains through the continuous supply of domestically sourced raw materials and inputs.

This includes the Nescafé Plan, an initiative to promote sustainable and regenerative coffee farming practices. To date, it’s trained more than 16,000 farmers, distributed over 72 million seedlings, provided ongoing agronomic assistance to more than 2,000 producers, and supported the transition to regenerative farming models.

“This new phase reflects our confidence in the country’s potential and our commitment to continue growing alongside Mexico,” says Nestlé Mexico CEO, Fausto Costa. “We want to strengthen our production capabilities, support Mexican agriculture, and continue generating opportunities through an increasingly robust, competitive and sustainable value chain. Because when Mexico grows, we all grow.”

Will other manufacturers follow?

Nestlé’s latest commitment underlines the growing importance of North America within its global manufacturing strategy.

As companies seek to build more resilient supply chains, strengthen regional production networks and secure access to key agricultural inputs, Mexico is increasingly emerging as a strategic investment destination.

The move could also signal a broader shift among European food and beverage manufacturers, many of which are reassessing where to deploy capital to balance growth opportunities with supply chain security.

If successful, Nestlé’s expansion could provide a blueprint for others looking to deepen their footprint across the region.
