A group of companies, NGOs and certification bodies have launched the EU Sustainable Supply Chains Coalition, aiming to push for sustainability in EU agricultural supply chains.
The Coalition focuses on EU policy and legislation to ensure sustainability in agricultural supply chains, as well as respect for human rights and resilient sourcing for European businesses and consumers.
It includes food majors such as Nestlé, Barry Callebaut, Mars, and Ferrero, as well as certification bodies such as the Rainforest Alliance and the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).
It was launched following a meeting on the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The review of this regulation is intended to be completed by 30 April.
“Businesses are ready to deliver on sustainable supply chains. The EU Sustainable Supply Chains Coalition shows that the transition is already under way. What is needed now is certainty. The EU’s anti-deforestation rules must be implemented without further delay. Anything else would reward those who hold back“, says MEP Delara Burkhardt, S&D Shadow Rapporteur on the EUDR.
“Ferrero is pleased to join with companies, NGOs and other stakeholders in calling for ambitious EU action. We will only deliver lasting change if we collaborate across the value chain so we can amplify impact, share best practices, and move in the same direction. By tackling deforestation, climate change and human rights risks, we can safeguard value and ensure thriving and resilient supply chains”, adds Francesco Tramontin, vice president for global public affairs at Ferrero.
