Coca-Cola is leaning into local consumer insights in China, expanding its beverage portfolio, creating culturally relevant experiences and strengthening community ties as the global beverage giant looks to deepen engagement in one of its key markets.
In China, Coca-Cola has continued expanding its portfolio in response to demand for gut health products, which are gaining interest in line with Healthy China 2030.
The company recently refreshed its prebiotic soft drink range. According to Shandong Bailong Chuangyuan, an ingredient supplier for CPG brands in China, Coca-Cola’s Prebiotic Soda contains over 5,000mg of prebiotics per bottle and is formulated with zero sugar and zero calories, aiming to support digestive health while maintaining the classic Coke taste.
A key component in this growing product category is resistant dextrin, a soluble dietary fibre recognised for its prebiotic properties. It supports gut health by promoting beneficial intestinal bacteria.
Additionally, Sprite + Tea was developed from social media insights. Minute Maid also launched new Orange Lemon Grapefruit and Pineapple Passion Fruit variants, while Pure Delight expanded its hydration offering with pH9.0+ electrolyte soda water targeting sports and meal occasions.

Beyond product innovation, Coca-Cola is increasingly positioning itself as a facilitator of shared experiences. Its latest FIFA World Cup campaign centres on interactive consumer engagement through digital content and shared viewing occasions, while QR-enabled packaging and locally tailored campaigns aim to strengthen connections with Chinese consumers beyond the point of purchase.
“Football is more than a game; it’s a shared passion with a tapestry of emotions that unites billions,” said Arnab Roy, President, Coca‑Cola Global Category. “At Coca‑Cola, we believe in the power of shared experiences. Our creative vision for this campaign is to harness the incredible energy of the FIFA World Cup™ and the rollercoaster of emotions that only this tournament can deliver, transforming them into real, tangible connections. Through innovative experiences and compelling content, we’re bringing fans closer than ever before, whether they’re cheering in digital spaces, local bars, or at-home watch parties.”

Local investment beyond products
Coca-Cola’s commitment to China also extends beyond product development and commercial growth. Since returning to the Chinese mainland market in 1979, the company said it has continued working with bottling partners to strengthen its local supply chain network and support communities across the country.
The company highlighted its “Clean Water 24 Hours” emergency response initiative as an example of how its distribution infrastructure can support communities during times of crisis. During the flood and typhoon seasons in the third quarter of last year, Coca-Cola China leveraged its nationwide network to deliver drinking water supplies to affected areas within 24 hours of receiving requests for assistance. The affected areas included Hebei, Hunan, Sichuan, and Chongqing.
This was carried out in collaboration with government emergency departments, rescue organisations and community partners.
