Mars, Inc. is investing €1.5m in the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings to foster scientific discovery and support the next generation of scientific talent.

The commitment forms part of the multinational’s Mars Impact Fund, an initiative launched in February this year with the purpose of making a “meaningful and lasting impact” in the communities it operates.

The Fund focuses on advancing science, supporting communities and promoting opportunities for future generations, aligning philanthropy with Mars’ long-term business and sustainability priorities.

The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings is a scientific forum, bringing together Nobel Laureates and top young scientists from around the world to discuss the future of scientific discovery and development. Founded in 1951, the Meetings have become one of the world’s most prestigious scientific gatherings, attracting hundreds of early-career researchers and dozens of Nobel Prize winners each year.

The funding, says Mars, aims to improve access for young scientists who would otherwise be unable to participate in the Meetings and improve their readiness to pursue scientific careers. The investment will help remove financial barriers to participation, including travel and attendance costs, enabling a broader and more diverse group of young researchers to take part.

Mars Impact Fund will also support Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings’ programming, fostering dialogue, collaboration and learning for this young talent. Additional funding will help expand mentorship, networking and knowledge-sharing opportunities between Nobel Laureates and emerging scientific leaders.

The partnership between Mars and the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings is built on a “shared belief that science advances most powerfully when we connect across generations, disciplines and sectors” to address the global challenges of tomorrow.

“One of the pillars of the Mars Impact Fund is our commitment to growing and diversifying the pipeline of global scientists,” says Michelle Grogg, executive director of the Mars Impact Fund. “The work of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings reflects that purpose, making it a natural fit that we were honoured to support further.”

The initiative reflects Mars’ broader commitment to scientific research, with the company investing in areas including food science, nutrition, sustainable agriculture and climate resilience. By helping develop future scientific talent, Mars hopes to contribute to breakthroughs that can address some of the world’s most pressing environmental and societal challenges.

Grogg goes on to say the investment is, “a unique and impactful opportunity to support some of the world’s most promising young scientists”.

Mars will celebrate the partnership at the 75th annual Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings in Lindau, Germany, this week.
