Solbar targets UK, Europe for growth

Soy protein firm Solbar has outlined big plans for growth in several fields, including dietary and sports nutrition following the completion of its acquisition by US-based farmer co-operative CHS in February 2012.

Moti Shmueli, sales director for West Europe, talked exclusively to FoodNavigator about the company's plans for the region at the Vitafoods 2012 trade show in Geneva.

Health and wellness was a major focus for the business, said Shmueli. "We are targeting balanced nutrition, diet nutrition, satiety, sports nutrition," said Shmueli.

Of particular interest for development were Solbar's isolate soy protein and texturised soy protein and Shmueli revealed the product areas Solbar aimed to target for these ingredients in Europe.

The UK, Germany and Spain would be core to its growth strategy in this area, he said, and the UK was especially advanced in sports nutrition, so that was one area Solbar was keen to develop.
