Regular consumption of a chicken essence supplement from food and health supplement company Cerebos Pacific could help keep blood sugar level under control, so reveal scientists from the Institute for Protein Research at Osaka University.

Published in the Neuroscience Letters, Dr Nagai's findings suggest that regular consumption of food manufacturer BRAND'S Essence of Chicken can help reduce hyperglycemia (high blood sugar level), a key factor for diabetes mellitus.

Dr Nagai and his team of researchers investigated the effect of BRAND's Essence of Chicken on hyperglycemia in animal models.

A chicken essence solution was fed to experimental rats and tap water was fed to another group of control rats. Both groups were injected with 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2DG) to simulate hyperglycemia. After seven days, measurements showed a reduction in the level of 2DG-hyperglycemia in the experimental rats.

The study concluded that BRAND'S Essence of Chicken significantly reduces high blood glucose level in rats and that the formulation of BRAND'S Essence of Chicken, containing L-Carnosine as an integral element, could regulate blood sugar levels by increasing plasma insulin and reducing glucagon.

President and CEO of Cerebos Pacific, Mr. Eiji Koike said, "The new findings further reinforce previous scientific research proving that BRAND'S Essence of Chicken has extensive health benefits. We are proud to be one of the first food manufacturers in Asia to commission advanced scientific research on our health products. This reflects BRAND'S commitment to R&D in creating health value for customers and reinforces our mission to be their 'Health Partner for Life'."
