3) Nestlé dragged into horsemeat crisis
We could have put together a whole gallery on the horse meat scandal which started at the beginning of the year to become public knowledge and the fallout is still being felt now. But instead, we picked one example from Nestlé after they become entangled with two products in February.
The firm, like others, dropped suppliers in wake of the incident and said in October that it will shut a French frozen meals plant after consumer trust took a hit and sales plunged.
Nestlé said the levels found were above the 1% threshold the UK's Food Safety Agency (FSA) used to indicate likely adulteration or gross negligence so they informed the authorities.
The firm removed two chilled pasta items, Buitoni Beef Ravioli and Beef Tortellini, from sale in Italy and Spain, which were supplied by German-based company, H.J. Schypke.
