Netherlands-based SVZ has completed its acquisition of Mondi Foods from Sono International, following approval of the deal by competition authorities and the Dutch works council.

SVZ said the move, the terms of which remain undisclosed, strengthened its leading position in high quality fruit and vegetable purees, concentrates and colours.

SVZ commercial director Edgar Biemans told FoodNavigator: "We officially acquired Mondi Foods on June 11."

Referring to what the two companies had in common, he said: "We are both in red fruit purees of similar origins, giving us synergy of overheads." He confirmed SVZ plans to close its production facilities in Etten-Leur in the Netherlands, with resulting redundancies, after gaining Mondi Foods facilities. "We are awaiting works council approval to go ahead with that."

"Both companies are in high season, so there will be no real integration of the two before the season ends in October. Until that time they will act as separate companies."

Mondi Foods is one of Europe's leading suppliers of red fruit ingredients to the food industry and has production locations in Rijkevorsel, Belgium and Karczmiska, Poland, plus a sales office in the UK.
