It’s official: the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) has been delayed for another year.
The European Parliament voted through the delay once more, after coming to an agreement with the Council, which represents member states.
The EUDR has been delayed for another year, meaning that the new deadline is 30 December 2026 for larger companies, and 30 June 2027 for smaller ones.
The delay will also include a ‘simplification review’, whereby the European Commission will be tasked to review the regulation by 30 April next year. This may include further simplifications.
Smaller operators will only have to submit a simplified declaration, rather than a full due diligence statement, to comply.
This is (at least for now) the conclusion of a long series of changes, simplifications and uncertainties stemming from the EU’s flagship anti-deforestation regulation.
Companies have another year to prepare for the regulation. They can also expect greater clarity in April when the simplification review is completed.
For now, though, we wait.
