Scottish rural affairs secretary Richard Lochhead stepped down ahead of the cabinet reshuffle.
First minister Nicola Sturgeon announced her new cabinet including his replacement Fergus Ewing MSP.
Ewing was elected as MSP for Inverness East, Nairn & Lochaber in 1999 and re-elected in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2016. Prior to being elected, he ran his own law practice and developed Scottish National Party policy on small business and other matters as well as serving on the party’s national executive.
In 2011 he was appointed the minister for enterprise, energy & tourism, in November 2014 the portfolio became business, energy & tourism.
The environment and climate change will have a dedicated cabinet secretary for the first time, with Roseanna Cunningham’s appointment underlining the Scottish government’s ambitious plans to further reduce carbon emissions, protect and enhance Scotland’s environment and take forward the government’s work on land reform.
