Costa's Coronation Chicken Toastie

Coffee chain Costa has launched Coronation Chicken Toastie, putting its own spin on a classic to celebrate the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. Featuring roast chicken with an blend of coronation spiced bechamel sauce, mango chutney, apricots and sultanas in coronation spiced cheese-topped bread, the new Coronation Chicken Toastie ‘is truly the crown jewel in Costa Coffee’s renowned toastie range’ it said.

Costa Coffee’s launch of the Coronation Chicken Toastie plays homage the classic to British cuisine, which is loved by many as a lunchtime staple, but also has a long history in the UK. The original coronation chicken filling was first created in honour of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation over 70 years ago and has stood the test of time as a popular filling ever since.

The company also said staff were being given Etiquette tips to take service to the next level during the coronation.

Naomi Matthew, Food Innovation Director at Costa Coffee commented: “We know how much the nation loves a toasted sandwich and we’re excited to be taking it to the next level with our Coronation Chicken Toastie. Our Baristas are the best of the best and are already experts in creating the perfect cup of handcrafted coffee, but we knew we had to take our training to another level in honour of King Charles’ coronation. We’re thrilled to have been able to have a Royal Butler train our Baristas so we can in turn make our customers feel like Kings and Queens during the exciting coronation period.”

The Coronation Chicken Toastie is available now until Wednesday 31st May 2023, in Costa Coffee stores nationwide.

A ‘sovereign’ brew for the King’s Coronation

Hobsons Brewery in Shorpshire has crafted the ‘perfect’ beer to mark the King’s Coronation, which it has coined ‘Sovereign’.

The ‘Extra Special Bitter’ has been brewed with Sovereign and Chinook hops. Hobsons Brewery describes it as a ‘well-based amber ale’ with a ‘delicious mix of malt and hop flavours’.

The bitter has hints of grapefruit and citrus, as well as a prominent and earthy aroma, we were told.

“Sovereign is a bold and flavourful beer with a lingering, earthy finish.”
