The Spanish pork trade body Interporc received a delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture of China, headed by its vice minister, to advance relations between the two countries.

According to the latest DATACOMEX data prepared by Interporc, in the first seven months of 2019, Spanish pig exports to China increased by 54% compared to the same period of 2018, with a total of 306,645 tons, which has meant a turnover of more than €524m.

Whilst in Spain, the Chinese delegation learned about the health of the pig sector and its production model.

Interporc president Manuel García welcomed the delegation and outlined the relations between the two countries.

He explained how Interporc has been developing its presence in China via different activities such as presence at important food fairs in the country, meetings with importers, conferences and missions with the Chinese press to publicize the Spanish. He added that in order to facilitate the intense work carried out in China, Interporc has its own office in Beijing.

“The good reception by Chinese consumers, the close collaboration between Spanish importers and companies, as well as the confidence that Spanish products have the highest quality and safety standards in the world, have given rise to the fact that in just a decade China It has positioned itself as the second foreign market for processed and processed pork in Spain, with 332,160 tonnes and 465.8 million euros in 2018, 15% of total Spanish pig exports.”

Global Meat News caught up with Interporc at Meat Attraction to discuss the health of the domestic pork sector as well as the opportunities and challenges present in the market.
