Japan has lifted the temporary ban on the import of Bulgarian poultry meat.

The official announcement to the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) was sent by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan last week.

The ban on Bulgarian poultry meat was imposed at the end of 2017 due to the worsening epizootic situation in relation to the disease Highly pathogenic avian influenza in Bulgaria. Following the improvement of the epizootic situation in the country, BFSA immediately proceeded with the procedure established by Japan to lift the temporary restrictions.

Earlier this year, Japan and the US signed a trade agreement committing to the elimination or reduction of tariffs on various food items including frozen chicken products.
