Abattoir construction begins in Sharjah
Part of the Sharjah Directorate of Public Works project for the Khorfakkan Ruins, the abattoir is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.
The 1,630m2 complex will be capable of slaughtering camels, cattle and sheep. It will house a 624m2 shed as well as specially-designed gates for loading and unloading as well as disposing of slaughterhouse waste.
Capable of processing up to 600 animals a day, the abattoir will also include solar water heating, a state of the art sterilization station and the cleaning of shoes at the entrance to the hall equipped with sensors that allow the worker to pass only after sterilization of hands.
The slaughterhouse also contains cattle and camels boxes that can calculate carcase numbers, follow standards for maintaining the health and safety of workers and applying animal welfare standards.
Speaking on Sharjah Radio, head of the design team Alaa Salem Al Jarwan said: “The project is part of the development plan of the Department of Works and the Municipality for the needs of the municipal councils, which are discussed by the Department each year to meet with them. The priorities of implementation are based on the need of the city.”
