Icelandic processor Marel has appointed Roger Claessens as EVP of its poultry division.

From 1 September, Anton de Weerd will step down as Marel Poultry’s EVP, with current director of innovation Roger Claessens taking over the role. De Weerd will take on a new role within Marel.

Claessens has already spent 18 years at Marel and gained extensive management experience. In his role as director of innovation over the past five years, he has headed up Marel’s innovations for the poultry industry.

Árni Oddur Thórdarson, CEO of Marel, said: “I would like to sincerely thank Ton for his extraordinary contribution to Marel's success over the years. Thórdarson added: “We are delighted that Roger has accepted this role. He has clearly demonstrated both leadership talent and technical capacities. Under his direction, the Marel innovation team has constantly introduced new products, systems and solutions that have transformed the poultry industry. I warmly welcome Roger on board as executive vice president of Marel Poultry and a member of the executive team.”
