Maier will be replacing Jean-Luc Mériaux who has been UECBV secretary general since 1980.
Born in Germany, Dr Maier graduated from the University of Hohenheim, Institute for Farm Management and specialised in agronomy and economics. He has over 25 years of professional experience in associations for industry and agriculture.
Maier has focused on ‘Farm – Food – Feed – Fuel’ skills across industries and throughout the value-added chain and good knowledge of the structures and workings within politics, government agencies and scientific world, at both domestic and EU level.
Commenting on the appointment, Margaret Boanas, vice-president of UECBV said: “Dr Maier has an excellent track record of leadership and engagement across the agribusiness sector. We are confident in his ability to build with UECBV members, EU Institutions and stakeholders new perspectives to address the challenges faced by the meat sector in Europe, such as Civil Society’s expectations on food, supply security, trade globalisation and EU meat sector competitiveness, research and innovation towards a sustainable and efficient meat industry.”
The UECBV is the EU voice of national federations representing livestock markets, livestock traders, meat traders, and the meat industry including slaughterhouses, cutting plants, meat preparation plants.
