AG Barr has recalled multiple fizzy drinks in glass bottles due to concerns that caps may pop off unexpectedly and cause injury.

Irn-Bru; Irn-Bru sugar free, Irn-Bru Xtra; Cola; Cream Soda; Ginger Beer; Lemonade; Limeade; Pineapple; Red Kola and Soda Water 750ml with dates up to and including May 2019 are affected.

Bottles were sold in retail stores across England and Scotland.

The problem was caused by a manufacturing fault and consumers are advised to carefully open them at arm’s length to release the pressure and return to the store or contact AG Barr.

AG Barr identified a problem with how some caps were applied on 750ml glass bottles.

“The quality of the drink itself is not affected, however the issue may cause a small number of caps to pop off unexpectedly,” said the company.

“As a precautionary measure we are asking consumers who have any of the products…to open the bottles with care to release the pressure.

“The bottle should be handled carefully, pointed away from the body at arm’s length, as you would when opening a bottle of sparkling wine.”

In 2016, AG Barr recalled four batches of Rubicon Sparkling Mango 2 litre soft drink due to fermentation and risk of the bottle bursting.

The presence of yeast resulted in spoilage of the products making them unfit to consume.
