Tentation Fromage is a company helping bridge the gap in France between traditional cheesemakers, who may not have an online presence, or only a rudimentary one, and consumers.

The company, which was exhibiting at the Salon du fromage event in Paris recently, saw an opportunity to fill a gap in the sales of specialty cheeses and to expand cheese producers’ sales catchment areas by creating an online space where consumers can choose, order and have cheese delivered to their doorsteps.

The company also guarantees that cheeses offered in the 24/7 online are available at the same price as in the stores.

Subscription service

Blue cheese, goat cheese, mozzarellas, and even yogurt, butter and honey is available through the store, which is not limited to solely French companies, as some British cheeses are also listed for sale.

There are some restrictions in that not all cheeses can be delivered, some are restricted to a certain area or are available for ‘click and collect’, however, the geographical area of delivery – which includes more than 30 countries in Europe – can be selected before viewing.

The company also offers a subscription service whereby customers can receive a variety of cheeses to sample each month.

Cofounder Alexandre Kipp told DairyReporter the startup company has been called the Uber of cheese, and that the website is being well received by both cheesemakers and consumers, and there are plans to expand the service in the future.
