Endress+Hauser has acquired a manufacturer of inline spectrometers for monitoring quality-relevant process parameters.

The deal expands its portfolio from Raman spectroscopy, tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) and process photometers.

Blue Ocean Nova AG will operate under the umbrella of Endress+Hauser’s center of competence for liquid analysis in Gerlingen, Germany. The company’s 15 employees in Aalen will be retained.

Process sensors developed by Blue Ocean Nova cover the optical spectroscopy regions of UV-VIS, NIR and MIR to analyze liquids, gases and solids inline. It allows the spectrometer to be directly integrated into the measurement probe.

Systems are used in food and beverage, chemicals and life sciences industries for applications such as concentration and moisture measurements and for measuring quality parameters.

“With this acquisition, we are continuing to pursue our strategy of strengthening the process analytical measurement portfolio and in the future supporting our customers from the lab to process,” said Dr Manfred Jagiella, managing director of Endress+Hauser Conducta GmbH+Co KG.

In other acquisition news, Mesa Laboratories has bought BAG Health Care’s Hygiene Monitoring business to expand in Germany and Eastern Europe.

The business will be integrated into Mesa’s Sterilization and Disinfection Control Division.

Biological, chemical and cleaning indicators are used to assess the effectiveness of sterilization and disinfection processes, including steam, gas, hydrogen peroxide, ethylene oxide and radiation sterilization as well as washer-disinfectors and ultrasonic cleaners.

Gary Owens, president and CEO of Mesa Laboratories, said the deal enhances direct commercial presence in Europe and will help serve new applications in sterilization and disinfection control.

“The integration of the BAG Health Care Hygiene Monitoring business into Mesa’s Sterilization and Disinfection Control Division adds deep customer relationships in the German and Eastern European markets…”
