Paweł Brzeziński, JBB’s commercial director for modern sales, said the company completed several projects in 2016, worth a total of PLN 150m (€36m).
Projects to expand
“Last year’s investments included the modernisation of the plant in Łyse and the construction of a new ammonia unit which upgraded the cooling system of the facility,” Brzeziński told local news site Portalspozywczy.pl. “We also completed the construction of a new packaging line.”
According to Brzeziński, JBB is aiming to further expand its product portfolio in the coming years.
“In the future, we would like to develop our semi-dry, dry and cured meat products segment which, in our opinion, has very good perspectives,” the commercial director said. “We try to react on a rolling basis to consumer behaviour patterns and, as a result, our offer continues to expand with products that respond to market needs.”
Despite its increased sales and plans to raise the company’s output capacity, JBB is not considering taking over any of its local competitors, according to Brzeziński.
“We are implementing our organic growth plans, so we are not planning to carry out any acquisitions in the near future. We are currently in talks with various retail chains on introducing JBB products on their shelves,” the commercial director said.
The Polish company’s portfolio consists of some 250 products which comprise a wide range of pork and poultry meat products. These include sausages, hams, frankfurters, pates, salami and others.
JBB’s meat cutting facility is located in Dylewo, in north-eastern Poland. Fitted with a total surface of 4,186 square metres, it has a capacity of about 360 tonnes (t) per day. The facility is operated by a workforce of some 100, according to data released by the firm.
Exports on the rise
While the Polish market remains the main source of revenue for JBB, the meat processor continues to increase its export sales. Exports represent an estimated 10% to 15% of JBB’s sales, with some of the meat processor’s major foreign markets including the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, according to the company’s commercial director.
The Polish meat business operates a meat processing plant in Łyse, also in the north-east of the country. Set up in 1992, JBB is operated by a workforce of some 1,300 employees, and its facility in Łyse is enabled to process about 300t per day. The plant also comprises a storage facility with a capacity of some 1,000t. JBB says its facilities are IFS-, BRC- and ISO 22000-certified. The meat processor’s logistics capacities are ensured by a fleet of 50 commercial vehicles.
