The UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) has revealed appointments to the Advisory Committee on the Microbiological Safety of Food (ACMSF).

Professor Miren Iturriza-Gómara and Alec Kyriakides and three reappointments have been named to the panel which provides the agency with advice on the microbiological safety of food.

Professor Iturriza-Gómara is professor of virology at the Department of Clinical Infection Microbiology and Immunology, Institute of Infection and Global Health, University of Liverpool.

Alec Kyriakides is the head of product quality safety and supplier performance at J Sainsbury’s. He is a microbiologist with experience in retail product safety and quality management. 

Reappointed members are Dr Roy Betts, head of food microbiology at Campden BRI, managing a 35 strong team involved in research and testing work. 

Prof Goutam (Bob) Adak is head of Gastrointestinal Infection Surveillance, Public Health England.
