Fits like a glove: Anchor Safety and Stalsen get grip on food industry

Anchor Safety is urging poultry food processing companies to look at the role of personal protective equipment (PPE) in reducing cross-contamination when handling poultry.

The personal protective equipment (PPE) supplier has been working with glove manufacturer, Stalsen and a UK poultry producer and processor, to develop a reusable nitrile glove.

Gourmet Grip gloves are 100% latex-free, made from nitrile rubber and provide enough grip to be used effectively when handling poultry during processing in wet conditions.

The firm was responding to the Food Standards Agency's (FSA’s) report that 73% of shop-bought chickens are contaminated with Campylobacter.

Patrick Tydeman, sales director at Anchor Safety, said while the wider food manufacturing industry looks at different solutions, it urged processors to remember the basics - good PPE and gloves.

“Gloves are by no means the answer to the Campylobacter crisis. But as food manufacturers handle poultry and attempt to avoid cross-contamination, gloves are an essential hygiene measure. It’s important that we all cover the basics," he said.

“That’s why we have invested in a new breed of gloves that are sensitive enough for handling delicate food produce, while being durable enough to handle heavier food products, offering great grip and protection.”
