A Danish packaging company has been awarded a ScanStar 2014 award for its SuperLock pot, which is used to package salami.

The SuperLock pot from RPC Superfos has a twist-off, screw-on lid as opposed to a typical tear open plastic packet and is used to package salami from food company Grilstad.

The judges of the Nordic packaging competition said the product was “consumer-friendly with a brilliant mechanism for re-closure with a clear click-sound indication that gives consumers peace of mind. The pack is elegant and can go directly to the lunch table and has an oxygen barrier almost like a metal can. Thoroughly made food packaging with a high consumer value”.

Grilstad development manager Terje Sørnes was thrilled about the award and commented: “We are delighted to get recognition through a ScanStar 2014. We are very happy about our decision to use the SuperLock pot, and luckily, end-users like it, too. Having considered other options, we chose SuperLock pot for our sliced salami because it is the only solution on the packaging market that offers three desirable qualities all in one: an oxygen barrier; decoration with in-mould labelling; and a twist-off screw-on lid.”

The official ScanStar ceremony 2014 took place at the FoodTech trade fair in Herning, Denmark. The SuperLock pot is now eligible for a WorldStar 2014 award. It will also be shown on the RPC stand at this year’s Emballage exhibition in Paris (stand H116, Hall 6).
