DuPont has launched Detect + Protect, a service program that puts in the hands of food producers the ability to gauge, monitor, and control the safety of their products and operations.

The program combines the company’s suite of safety technologies with scientific consultants to come up with a roster of safety products for a company to put in place. The intent is to facilitate reduction in risk exposure while increasing the productivity of a food firm’s safety program.

Beyond the basics

Nathalie Brosse, global market development manager for Detect + Protect, told Food Production Daily the program is designed to go beyond standard, out-of-the-box safety equipment.

This collaborative program combines traditional microbial analysis and genomic techniques with years of expertise from DuPont microbiologists and food scientists to help manufacturers take control of their specific microbial ecology through a wide range of tailored solutions,” she said. “Detect + Protect works on an individual basis—each project is specifically customized to the customer’s needs to create the best solution for their products, processes and environment.”

Custom connection

Brosse said DuPont’s scientific team communicates with a food company’s safety and analytical staff to gauge their needs and concerns to come up with the appropriate suite of services.

These solutions can include a variety of findings, such as needs for sanitation method improvements, addition of antimicrobial ingredients, product re-formulations, or changes in raw materials,” she said. “Detect + Protect specialists are present throughout the process to help implement these solutions and work with the customer through every step of the assessment, revision and implementation processes.”

While Brosse declined to give out specific client information due to confidentiality agreements, she told FPD the program has been a productivity boon for a number of Detect + Protect participants.

A recent customer told us his return rate for a microbial issue has been reduced by 95% in less than three months after implementing Detect + Protect solutions,” she related.

DuPont is showcasing Detect + Protect and numerous other food protection technologies at its International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) booth (757). Nicolette Blubaugh, marketing communications representative for DuPont Nutrition and Health, told FPD booth visitors will see the latest about the firm’s protective materials, bioprotection products, and food diagnostic equipment (such as the BAX system and portfolio of PCR assays).

IAFP is taking place in Indianapolis, August 4-6.
