Vivione Biosciences receives first AOAC certification

Vivione Biosciences has received Association of Analytical Communities (AOAC) certification for its E. coli O157 and Non O157 STEC diagnostic tests for the RAPID-B platform.

The RAPID-B system looks at each bacterium's physical properties (including size, shape, and transparency) and analyzes responses to probes and DNA dyes.

It allows testing of food products in seven hours or less, including sample preparation versus other commercial systems that take up to 48 hours to provide results.

After almost eight years in development with National Center for Toxicological Research, Vivione said it will now bring the tests to market with AOAC certification.

The firm received a Letter of No Objection (LNO) from the US Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA- FSIS) for the non-O157 Shiga toxigenic group of E.coli test kits in April this year.

Kevin Kuykendall, CEO of Vivione, said: “We believe it represents a new generation of tests for producers looking for increased sensitivity, accuracy and speed, with the added benefit of enumerating the bacterial load.

“Although we’ve had great interest in our technology over the past two years, now that we have AOAC certification, producers are able to purchase the RAPID-B platform to be used for a variety of applications, from incoming inventory analysis to end product testing.”
