Multisorb Technologies is to host a presentation on quality retention and shelf-life extension for food products, on its stand (hall 11, stand D19) at Interpack 2014.

The Buffalo, New York-based firm will be holding the symposium over three time slots: 11am on 9 May, 3pm on 10 May, and 11am on 12 May, at the German show, which takes place from 8-14 May at the Düsseldorf fairgrounds.

Retaining quality, shelf-life and improving sustainability of packaged foods can be a challenge, as oxygen, moisture, and microbial growth have a negative impact on colour, flavours, aroma, texture, and the nutritional value of food, said the firm.

The presentation will focus on using active packaging technologies to maintain foods’ freshness and extend its shelf-life, while reducing or eliminating the use of artificial ingredients or additives.

Multisorb will be showcasing its range of food and beverage sorbent solutions and systems at the show, including its Drop-In, Fit-In, Built-In sorbent solutions, which it says can be customised to meet specific food preservation challenges.

For example, its Drop-in solutions, FreshPax, MiniPax and StripPax packets, which are suitable for processed meats, can be dropped into the product package or container, in order to protect food from moisture and oxidation.

Meanwhile its Maplox program is designed to maintain fresh case-ready meat in prime condition. It is a low packaging program that extends shelf-life by significantly reducing oxygen within the master bag and primary tray with the use of a Drop-In solution – FreshPax CR packets. For higher-speed applications, such as ground beef, FreshPax CR dispensers can be used.
