The consequences of the horsemeat crisis, filling the yawning skills gap, lean and green manufacturing and social media were just some of the topics tackled by the Food Manufacture Group at Foodex 2014, at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham last week.

The Food Manufacture Group held four Big Video Debates to address the dangers, opportunities, challenges facing the food and drink sector and the solutions on offer.

This video features the views of the former Food Standards Agency (FSA) board chairman, British Retail Consortium (BRC), Forum for the Future, The National Skills Academy for Food and Drink, Institute of Food Science & Technology, British Automation and Robot Association, SA Partners, Wyke Farms, Mash Direct and National Farmers Union (NFU).

Former chairman of the FSA board Lord Rooker, BRC food policy adviser Elizabeth Andoh-Kesson and Forum for the Future head of food Mark Driscoll gave their views on how the horsemeat crisis changed industry practices.

Wyke Farms md Richard Clothier, Mash Direct marketing manager Jack Hamilton and NFU senior social media advisor Paul Bradley discussed whether or not social media was a threat or opportunity.
