ABP Food Group has acquired a second production facility in Western Poland to increase its production capacity in the country.

The new acquisition from Italian food group Ferrarini will see ABP’s production rise to over 100,000 animals per year.

ABP’s other plant in Poland is situated 30 kilometres away in Pniewy, and when both plants are fully up and running, they will be expected to employ over 250 people between them.

CEO of ABP Food Group Paul Finnerty said: "After Ireland, Poland is the second largest beef exporter to the European market and this expansion will allow ABP Poland to further solidify our position as a sustainable supplier of high quality Polish beef products to customers throughout Europe.

"When we entered the Polish market we intended to build a business of significant scale, and this acquisition is a continuation of that strategy."

Production is expected to start in February next year.
